Tumbarumba Sets New Earnings Record for Louisiana-Breds With Saudi Cup Finish

Third-place run in world’s richest race vaults Tumbarumba past Free Like a Girl

DUBAI, UAE (February 14, 2026) — Tumbarumba became the all-time highest earning Louisiana-bred racehorse Saturday after finishing third in the $20 million Group 1 Saudi Cup, the world’s richest race. The 5-year-old gelding’s earnings climbed to $3,210,433, surpassing the late Free Like a Girl. Tumbarumba competed in a stellar international field of 13, finishing only behind Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Forever Young and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Nysos.

Bred by Coteau Grove Farms in Sunset, Louisiana, Tumbarumba is by Oscar Performance out of Naïve Enough, a Street Sense mare. Purchased as a $30,000 yearling, Tumbarumba broke his maiden at Churchill Downs in his second start as a juvenile and capped his 2-year-old campaign with a runner-up finish in the $100,000 Louisiana Juvenile at Fair Grounds.

Tumbarumba continued his rise with dirt sprint wins at Keeneland and Churchill Downs, and a victory in the $192,000 Ellis Park Derby in 2023. His first graded stakes win came in the Grade 3 $150,000 Frew W. Hooper Stakes at Gulfstream Park in January 2024. He placed in multiple stakes throughout the season, ending with a close fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar.

In 2025, Tumbarumba captured the R. A. Cowboy Jones Stakes at Ellis Park and the Grade 3 $400,000 Ack Ack Stakes at Churchill Downs, defeating heavy favorite Most Wanted. He wrapped up his campaign with another fourth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.

Coteau Grove Farms purchased Naïve Enough for $95,000 at the 2017 Keeneland November sale. Her Epicenter filly of 2024 was the highest priced yearling by that stallion in 2025. Naïve Enough is due to foal a full sibling to Tumbarumba this year.

Tumbarumba is trained by Al Jehani Hamad and is owned by international powerhouse Wathnan Racing (https://wathnan-racing.com/), who purchased him privately during his racing career. Jockey Doyle James was in the irons today for the win. Tumbarumba prepped for the Saudi Cup with a 2nd place finish at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai in the Al Maktoum Challenge (G1).
